Located on La Rambla (See Ramblas apartment in Barcelona), Boqueria Market is a must-see place in Barcelona. Originally, it was an open market in front of one of the gates of the old city wall, a place where famers and traders exchanged fruit and vegetable. In 19th century, it was constructed under the direction of architect Mas Vila. It is considered as the oldest market of Barcelona in particular and Spain in general.
The colorful market is full of fruit, vegetable, seafood, meat, processed food, all sorts of animal parts (tongues, heads, and organs galore), eggs, fresh juices, nuts, cheese, and olives. This is also an ideal opportunity to discover Mediterranean cuisine. It's open Monday to Saturday, 8am till 8.30pm. The best moment of the day for shopping is in the morning, early.
