Arcole Street on the Ile de la Cité, begins at the quai des Fleurs and the quai de la Corse to finish at 22 rue du Cloître-Notre-Dame. It is born from the alignment in 1834 of two old streets of the city: Chevet-Saint-Landry street and Saint-Pierre-aux-Bœufs street. It continues on the pont d'Arcole to which it owes its name. Arcole is the name of a famous battle between 19 000 men of the French army commanded by Napoleon Bonaparte, and the 24 000 men of the Austrian army under the command of General Josef Alvinczy. It took place on the banks of the Alpone, a tributary of the Adige, great river of northern italy.
