The de Birague street in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, is located in the Marais. It starts at 36 Saint-Antoine street and ends at 1 place des Vosges, home of Victor Hugo and famous for its symmetry. The street was opened in 1605 under the reign of Henry IV to serve the famous place then under construction, and it became the main access road. It is located on the site of the former hôtel royal de Tournelles meaning little tower. Located on the north side of the square there is nothing left from the hotel except a copy of one of its doors on the south portal of Saint-Nicolas-des-Champs and some caves buried under some buildings in the neighborhood. The current name of the street is that of cardinal de Birague chancellor, who had his house in the Sevigné street near. At No. 10, the house where died Lakanal, the famous professor of philosophy of the Fathers of Christian Doctrine, which finally agreed to the French Revolution. Le Pavillon du Roi, at No. 16, bears the monogram of King Henri IV in a decorative trophy of arms and attributes of art. This is the house where died the sculptor Jean-Jacques Feuchères. The left arch conceals since the eighteenth century the stairs of the pavilion.
