IIIrd district of Paris. The Chapon street, in the Marais, begins at the 113 Temple Street and ends at 230 Saint-Martin street. Like Brisemiche street, it is one of the nine streets that king Saint Louis had reserved for prostitution. Yet the odd side was occupied by the Archbishop of Reims hotel, replaced by the bishop of Châlon. It will long be called Coq street (Cock street) by irony. It owes its name to anti-semitism, which means they calleed the jews by derision: caponum societas, society of chapons. This was the name derisively given to Robert-Begon who gave his name in the fourteenth century to this small street located between Beaubourg street and du Temple street.
