Paris accommodation rue des Lombards
The rue des Lombards is located between the 1st and 4th arrondissement of Paris. Lombards is the name of the rich merchants came from Genoa, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Siena and Lucca. They were installed in the street during the time of Philip Augustus (French: Philippe Auguste; 21 August 1165 – 14 July 1223). The Lombards were bankers.
The Italian poet Giovanni Boccaccio (1313 – 21 December 1375) was born in Paris, rue des Lombards. We know he was a parishioner of the église Saint-Merri. He was born of the adventure of his father, Lombard from Florence, with a Parisian girl. His father took him to Italy and then returned to Paris to make forget poetry and learn the trade.
The theophilanthropists, friends of God and men, were strange birds. They lived in Paris, like many birds. They wanted the French Revolution to revive Christianity into "natural" religion. They occupied the house at the corner of the rue Saint-Denis and the rue des Lombards. In 1796 they settled in the churches. They turned the Church of Saint-Merri into a covered market.
