Welcome to the border of the fourth and fifth arrondissement of Paris. The rue du Petit Pont is located between the uai du Marché-Neuf and the quai de Montebello and the quai Saint-Michel, a continuation of the rue de la Cite and Place du Petit Pont. It is a hyphen between the Marais and Latin Quarter.
The Petit-Pont is one of the first work of art of the Seine. Julius Caesar in his Gallic Wars, already speaks of a bridge with five arches. A first work with stone piers was built in the Middle Ages. Destroyed in 1196 several works succeeded regularly washed away by floods or ice. Raymond du Temple (Archer de la Garde et Maçon du Roi) will realize a three-arched bridge under Charles VI, the waves will carry few months later ... Charles VI will re-established it between 1409 and 1416, and the bridge this time held until the eighteenth century, even damaged by the floods. Destroyed by fire in 1718, with Paris apartments built over it, a three arches stone bridge will replaced quickly, without flats.
